All summer long there are music festivals. Multi day extravaganzas at The Hamptons filthy mosh pits of Warped but today I have the sad job of announcing one that has been called off.
New Jerseys "Festival for Humanity" will not take place over Memorial Day weekend due to budget constraints. I wrote about it here– what a noble cause and idea. Were the bands donating their time? Vendors giving a cut? Who exactly is to blame for this event not making it? An actual charity event with a realistic goal.
“The concept of Festival For Humanity was a celebration of art and music to benefit charities of suicide prevention, health and nutrition,” founder Andres Thueson wrote on the festival’s website. “I strongly believe we will find another way to help those in outreach, education, awareness and funding, this I pledge.”
It saddens me that it couldn't be scaled down that concessions weren't made and that those who have purchased tickets would even consider asking for refund. What a fantastic cause and what a cruel twist for it to falter.
Anyone who wants their money back is an idiot or that money should be sent right back to Andres Thueson as donations to the original intent. As a matter of fact I say whip out your checkbooks right now and donate to these causes even on a local level. We have become so incredibly jaded. Any band that didn't donate their time or at least cut down to travel expenses should be exposed.
