Brendon Urie’s gotta voice like silk and the ability to make me into a 12 year old fangirl. There’s a new music video for “This Is Gospel”- but the catch is the entire song is just Brendon singing at a piano. I literally melted when I found this out, because acoustic or stripped down Panic! is the best Panic! of all.
The video features Urie sitting at a stark white piano outside on a sunny day, and suddenly there is confetti and paint and water and spaghetti and meatballs and so many things falling from the sky, splashing on Brendon, and it’s pretty funny. What’s best is he keeps a straight face through it all. It’s a simple video, but still kept me really entertained. As for the song itself, it gave me chills and I could not be more awestruck about it.
I’m not sure if he has a vocal coach or not, and I assume no, but somehow his voice keeps getting better. The simplicity of the piano really allows him to delve deep into the warm tones of his register, stretching from sultry lows to notes that even I would have to hit in falsetto, but he manages them in chest voice. His range is stunning, and he seems to embrace it effortlessly. His voice has always been a massive draw to the band for me, and over the years, it’s only gotten stronger and more beautiful. Honestly, the man could be on broadway if he wanted. This version of “Gospel” is chilling and absolutely lovely. I adore it, and it only made me love Brendon more. It’s the best thing they’ve released in a very long time.
