Orchid Tapes has released their compilation, titled “BORING ECSTASY” and it is the epitome of fantastic.  It’s 13 tracks, each by a different artist associated with the label.  What drew me to it was the fact that Alex G, Ricky Eat Acid, and none other than Elvis Depressedly, were involved.

Ricky Eat Acid has the opening track, “Can You See It’s Bloom”.  It’s beautiful and ambient, the beginning of it really easing into the whole mood of the record.  It’s a slow build, but so well done and as it grows, it becomes more fascinating.  It’s so unique and lovely, and I’m really happy with how it came out.  There’s something beautiful about noises that are laced in together to create a feeling or a simple soundtrack, and in under three minutes, I was already wishing that the first song was longer.
Alex G’s “Cards” is really wonderful.  I love the way it was recorded and how nearly hollow the guitar feels.  It’s really laid back and that’s something I’ve always appreciated about his music.  The vocals are great, and all together it has a really fantastic vibe that I can’t get enough of.  It is just so gentle and simple, but really captivating.
“Rearrange”, a song by Foxes In Fiction, definitely stands out.  The vocals are dreamy and soft, and it kind of feels a little bit like a Youth Lagoon song, without some of the smoke and mirrors.  It has a trance-like quality to it, and I love how minimalistic it is, because it’s incredibly effective.  I was stunned by how bare-bones this tune was, and it’s brilliant.
The only bummer of this comp is that Elvis Depressedly’s song is only available on vinyl, and they’re only pressing a limited amount of vinyl.  It’s really quite disappointing.  But alas, not everybody wins.  But damn, I wanna hear that song.
Download it for free off of Orchid Tapes’ bandcamp, or support them and pay what you can.  It’s a fantastic project and everyone involved did a phenomenal job.
