One more shot at the rock and roll hall of fame…
Readers may think our argument with the Rock And roll Hall Of Fame is based solely upon a difference in taste. It isn’t at all. Like Mike Nessing, I think the majority of the inductess are genius. But my dislike is the institution itself. I have an inate distrust of all insititutions including education, marriage, church and state. And I hate changing rock into an institution.
But that’s only half of it. wenner and co are taking rock out of our hands and putting it into their own, President palling, big biz, upper crust billionaire zillionaire, world where the great unwashed can’t reach it.
Rock is the antithesis of this class structured world Rolling Stone and its chosen few have placed it upon. Rock is the antithesis of classical -it is a cheap way to make a racket without having a 50 piece orchestra because the people playing it HAVE NO FUCKING MONEY. It is black people a generation a way from slavery and white okies and trailer trash RECOVERING FROM THE GREAT DEPRESSION inventing a sound with their own hands. It is about us and not them and to give it back to classical, back to the powers that be, is an outrage and deserves the reviling we give it.
The only thing left to do at the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, to U2, Springsteen, Sting, the Stones, is laugh in the face of these pompous asses. They wouldn’t know what rock was if it bit them on the ass. Smith Westerns have more spirit of rock in their little finger.
