With “Best Song Ever”, the lead song from their upcoming movie heading right into Billboards Top Five, that makes two albums down, one on the other, and right now as we speak One Direction feel like an unmovable force in the wild world. This makes them in it for the long haul.

“Best Song Ever” is one of the catchiest songs you will ever hear, indeed it might well be insultingly catchy, just one long tug at your lobe, it doesn’t give you the chance to relax into the song before it throws you another hook.

The arrangement is really clever, like everyone 1D do it is weightless and becomes it has no gravity the hooks don’t drag you down. In other hands, all of 1D’s songs could be way too much. The fun would be lost if the band didn’t take themselves so casually. All the way through their career it is as if all they’ve done is have a blast. Even The Wanted are too heavy for the brimful of bubble that is great pop. The guitars, the we are serious artists stuff, bogs the wanted down, but 1D use both their minimal playing and their maximum playfulness pop singing to keep the affairs of the pop heart an all dancing, all singing, Disney movies.

There are no repercussions when it comes to 1D, on “Best Song Ever” they are a woah ho hoo” away from heaven. The girl in the song is cheeky and fun, nd the boys are easy going and having the time of their lives, it’s a casual soundtrack.

And the band themselves seem to be floating past all the pop pitfalls with an ease brought upon by a vision of themselves as really just fun loving guys. When Taylor threatened to turn into Yoko, the band sidestepped her entirely and you can imagine why (even if it is an imaginary why), you can imagine Taylor’s needs being serious and deep, and the band, I mean one of them but just the overall vibe, being loose and fun.

Though the projected 300,000 units sold is down 40,000 from their “Live While We’re Young” height, the streaming numbers are over the moon high. Even with this crappy video.

Which means, I guess, they are gonna be around a little longer.
