New Radiohead Songs

Consequence of Sound is reporting that guitarist Ed O’Brien has been talking about the forthcoming Radiohead world tour to Mary Anne Hobbs on XFM in the U.K., and has revealed that the band will actually play new songs beside the expected tracks from The King of Limbs.

‘We’ve been rehearsing about four or five new songs this week. So we’re going to try and take those on the road.’

Nothing was said if or when this new material will be released, but Thom Yorke had spoken to Rolling Stones in October (at the time they played these New York’s Roseland Ballroom shows), and had declared that Radiohead will record in December and January. This is what he said:

‘We can get things together quite rapidly at the moment’ mentioning the title of one new song ‘Come to Your Senses’, and continuing with ‘We have this version of it. It's a five-minute rehearsal, but it has the essence of what we need' […] 'It would be fun to have them ready when we go to play next year. I don't know how we would release them.’

A few days ago, the band has announced the release of 2 unreleased tracks ‘The Daily Mail’ and ‘Staircase’ from 'the King of Limbs' session, which will be available as a digital single on December 19th. So far, only radio rips of the songs have surfaced.

'The Daily Mail' begins like a simple song, keyboard driven with Yorke vocals, … why did I keep having the image of Chris Martin in my head during the first 2 minutes? Then it becomes more animated and passionate with more instruments in the mix. It is quite different from any song coming from their last effort, 'the King of Limbs', whereas ‘Staircase’ is more closer to than fuzzy busy electronic where a lot of things are going on at the same time. I have read big declarations by fans saying it was the best Radiohead songs ever, but honestly, I don’t hear this at all:
