Papi – Jennifer Lopez – In the world of web editing a week is a year, so I feel as if I've had this forever by now. A first rate mover that mixes meringue rhythms with dance heavy bpms and everything -and that's a lot of it, is less imprtant. Unfortunately, beyonce just made everything sound old fashioned but there is no getting round this. Great pop music.
The Modern Racket – Christopher Drew – remember Mary Magpie's interview with this guy last year at Warped? This could go either way, you know. But I think. But he has a real talent and if he can figure out how to grow up he could be major.
Hey Muma – Cam'ron and Vuda – Cam'ron is so good that shit that would have ne neer and Gucci has me applauding this worldclass rapper. Great rhythm hook, and the lyric is brilliant bullshit. No he won't be purple again, still, he can always do it with or without the Diplomats.
Prayin' – Plan B – They sound like a back Street Boys who grew up the right way, with only hip hop production used as shorthanded this is white soul 30 somethings stepping in the footsteps of Take That but without a Robbie Williams.
The Boy – Metronomy – Ho hum electronica 80s style… ie lotsa synth
My Girl – Mindless Behavior – Before boy bands become Pan B, they are little flirts like these kids. Little flirts with Big Time Lady Gaga and beyonce associates trying to cut themselves in. It's great by the way.
Adolescents – Incubus – these guys have been putting out this stuff forever and I wish they'd stop.
Executioner's Song – Duff Mckegan's Loaded – Unspeakable dross. The absolute pits. It is like pro-rock plus metal and so Spinal tap it ain't funny.
Before It Explodes – Charice – I liked her song with Justin a coupla years back but this is bland pop soul
Snatch It Back And Hold It – Steve Miller Band – Bluesy rock with a nod of the head to the Godfather of soul.
Automatic – Audrey O'day – The problem with O'Day is the problem with so much of Diddy's finds: she lacks personality. This is pretty good, but it is so nondescript and in a world of production superstars you need something to get out.
Gangsta – Tune-Yards – From the sirens that open the song to the loopped drums and strings, to thereturn of the sirens as harmonic overload this is a masterpiece before she opens her mouth but…
Run The World (Girls) – Beyonce – I have zero time for self-empowerment: empower this. But this is brilliance from one end to the other, it is a series of complex, interlocking, drum patters, joining and breaking away away over and over again and without a doubt Beyonce's best moment in years.
