I remember reading a coupla years ago about 80s tween phenom Tiffany on a shoppong mall tour. At the time I thought it was first rate idea and wondered why more bands didn’t follow in her steps. In the early 80s Uktravox did a tour of High Schools in the UK performing lunch break sets. Great ideas both nobody has seriously followed up on. If I managed Love Grenades I’d have her play at Walmarts. Earlier theis year I saw greatest punk rock band (greatest any band?) in the world at the Whitney museum. The trick about finding an audience is going where the audience is.I grasp the back-fore-ground problem but certainly a dance band should get over the idea of being a useful tool for shoppers or schook kids. Or museums.
Or even retail boutiques? Here comes news that the New Moon bands will be touring the Hot Topics retail chain. It all begins on November 20th where Death Cab for Cuties will join Band of Skulls, Sea Wolf and the sainted Anya Marina at a the Hot Topic store in Hollywood.
Following the sets the bands will take questions, sign autographs and generally make asses of themselves.
Hot Topic are selling some pretty lousy Twililight merch (see below) to the unsuspectingly undead:
Be that as it may I think its time to take the music out of the clubs and the concert halls and find the people where they live. Good for Death Cab and bands…
