New Lady Gaga video offending Catholic Leagues
The Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights are protesting against the new Lady Gaga’s video for single ‘Judas’, although they haven’t seen it yet!
The group’s president Bill Donahue declared:
‘This is a stunt… Lady Gaga tries to continue to shock Catholics and Christians in general: she dresses as a nun… she swallows the rosary. She has now morphed into a caricature of herself.
She is trying to rip off Christian idolatry to shore up her talentless, mundane and boring performances. Another ex-Catholic whose head is turned around… Is this the only way to jet up her performance? This isn’t random, we are getting closer to Holy Week and Easter’.
In the video, Gaga is supposed to star as Mary Magdalene and actor Norman Reedus as Judas according to The Sun, and Laurieann Gibson who directed the video said that it will ‘change the world’ without being blasphemous, and that she would have walked away from the project if any of the material offended her:
‘I will tell you now, first off, I’m Christian, and my career is evidence of God in my life, and I think that most people are already thinking that Gaga and the blasphemy and they’re premeditating the approach and I think they’ll be very shocked to find out how huge and really ground breaking the message is and how freeing the message is for all the right reasons’, she said.
The promo of the video, due on April 19th, can be seen at the end of the 41st installment of Gagavision.
There is nothing new here, I don’t care very much about what Gaga does in terms of music, but I don’t know what is more pathetic in this story: the fact that, by offending the same catholic league than Madonna when she released ‘Like a prayer’ in 1989 (the Vatican condemned the video, and religious groups protested it), Gaga is once again copycatting Madonna,though they are both Catholic Schiool girls, or the fact that Christian and Catholic leagues are still offended by a music video in 2011. if she really wants to be controversial, why doesn't she insault Islam?
