My Morning Jacket At Governors Ball, Friday, June 5th, 2015, Review

Of the six headliners this year at Governors Ball, I’ve seen five of them, including My Morning Jacket, who are great live, so I use Gov Ball to sample more than catch the entire set, and then, later, decide, whether I wanna catch em on this tour. I wanna see My Morning Jacket on this tour. Earlier in the day they were easily the biggest band signing autographs in the Record Pavillion, later the band were on fire. Songs I couldn’t get behind on The Waterfall were revelations on stage.

I caught the first six songs, and Jim James vocal on “Evil Urges” was ridiculous, a Curtis Mayfield inspired complete triumph but the night (or what I saw of it) belonged to lead guitarist Carl Broemel, who was beyond awesome on “Circuital. How a band who have been at it so long can be so clueless as to how to record themselves is beyond.

I can’t wait for the official tour to reach nyc, I can’t wait to see the entire three hours plus set.
