This is getting out of control.
I realize whatever the market will bear and I realize the feeding frenzy for these gigs, the comedian’s first in TEN YEARS here, still $100 the cheapest seat. That is some cold shit.
I was gonna pass and not just for the price but also the five dates weren’t gonna happen so, you know, next dude. And the price. But I kept on thinking and in the end there was a date I could just about shoe horn in between Morrissey on one side and the Metropolitan opera. A Sunday night true, June 21st, but look at it this way: Chapelle at Radio City could well be the Richard Pryor Live On The Sunset Strip of the 21st Century. Yes, really, Chapelle in’t as great as Pryor but that is the worst you can say about him. It is a battle for the top between Chapelle and Chris Rock and Rock’s last tour was a touch boring so, you gotta think, right?
Than he added three dates with bands and as for the music – but the names so far include Janelle Monae, Erykah Badu and the dreaded the Roots. Nothing on the nights I’m going and still $100 as the lowest price, that’s ridiculous. I guess the world is richer than I am.
Here is Radio City’s Press Release:
“After selling out five consecutive comedy shows within minutes of announcement, Dave Chappelle and Live Nation have added three additional shows to feature Chappelle along with several music guests playing with a full orchestra, June 24th through 26th, at Radio City Music Hall.
For these shows, Chappelle will combine his greatest love, stand-up comedy with his second love, music. The connection between improvisation and timing will be on full display as Chappelle co-headlines with a special musical guest each night, including The Roots, Erykah Badu, Busta Rhymes, Janelle Monáe, DJ Premier and more to be announced. A full orchestra will enhance the concert experience.
Tuesday June 24th: Dave Chappelle and The Roots
Wednesday June 25th: Dave Chappelle, Busta Rhymes, DJ Premier, and Janelle Monáe
Thursday June 26th: Dave Chappelle and Erykah Badu
As Chappelle approaches the 10th Anniversary of his concert movie Block Party, filmed in 2004, in Brooklyn, this run of shows at Radio City are Chappelle’s first announced NYC engagement in over 10 years.”
