Must See: Chromeo At Summerstage, September 2014

Chromeo All Summer Long
Chromeo All Summer Long

Half Arab, Half Jewish, all Canadian, and one of em is the big brother of half of Ducksauce, plus I didn’t like em much for years and years and only got serious about em with the release of White Women earlier this year, the second best EDM album after, ta dah, Ducksauce, please meet David Macklovitch and Patrick Gemayel, or if you prefer, Chromeo.

My problem with Chromeo was that they hit me like a poor man’s Holy Ghost, for all their gifts as DJ and as disco mavens, they were shallow party boys and while Holy Ghost always seemed a little off center, a a little dark for the airiness of disco, Chromeo were more mercury than Chrome, two girl crazy dance boys without the infantile hi-jinx (or weird sound rides) of LMFAO but with something of the joy.

The caveats remain but man some of White Women sounds great enough for the question of sincerity not to matter; “Jealous (I Ain’t With It)” is gonna be huge for them and the Solange track really hits soulful and sweet.

I saw A-Trak a couple of weeks ago at T5 and was very impressed so it was even more of a reason to catch Chromeo next time they play locally but there is more… THEY ARE PLAYING SUMMERSTAGE!!! Under the stars at Central Park for a modified rave? You gotta think that is gonna be a blast.

One more thing. the date. September 19th which will be a FRIDAY… so altogether this is a must see for my new fave disco band, so see it.
