When I think about having a good laugh, I don’t necessary think Mumford & Sons, and I am probably not the only one, Nevertheless their latest video has gone viral on the internet because it is a really funny one; in any case it demonstrates that these guys have some sense of humor.
Is there effectively anything more boring than watching Mumford & Sons play in a video? Probably not, so for their song ‘Hopeless Wanderer’ released on Sunday, they have hired comic actors Ed Helms, Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and Will Forte and made them adopt the Mumford old-school look for the occasion. They lip-sync the whole song while pretending to play the instruments, at least I think they are pretending, as they can be very convincing at time.
Then it turns all wild and dangerous as one of them struggles to play guitar while carrying a bass drum on his back, they almost sink in a tiny and crowded boat and get very, very emotional: there is tear licking and wet kissing,… so much bromance for the same song. The whole ting is very comical and ends up in a wild banjo smashing number… who would have thought there was so much violence at the core of a Mumford & Sons song?
Think what you want of the British band – and I don’t think much about them myself – bands which aren’t taken themselves seriously are very refreshing… after watching this video, it becomes a little bit harder to hate Mumford & Sons and their banjo-plucking folk revival.
