Remember MTV took on the BBC hit Skins and killed it in record time? Well now they're doing the same thing with The Inbetweeners. The British comedy centers around a private (public) secondary school and a group of friends adventures.
This concept has been done about a hundred times in the US. We love teenagers and we love shows about their antics. Why then are we going to be subjected to MTV's slaughter of another program? Why not just tune in to BBC America and watch the real deal? Simple- bucks.
See the problem is The Office US version was and is such a massive hit that it has to be duplicated- no matter what the humiliation is. Some shows just work better in Brit land, The Inbetweeners is just that show. The dry wit, the social situations simply do not work in the US. The sneak peaks had everyone 'loving it' as the four best friends try to 'figure it out' Vague? Yep.
The problem is that the shows teaser is actually enough to catch my interest. I was so incredibly against Skins that there wasn't a snowballs chance in hell that I would tolerate that remake.
But Inbetweeners- offer up the standard fare. The nerd, the stud, the fat kid and the social mess. The issue is can it play to the US kids? No. Not to any who have seen the BBC version. But there is hope in those who have nothing to compare it to.
For those of us who are loyalists to the Queens version- Great NEWS! The Inbetweeners movie is slated to be released here on September 7th!! Finally- the rest of you.. carry on with your US version.
