Two for the price of two and and neither that great. The 1983 “Love Never Felt So Good”, a straight ahead pop soul ballad (co-written by Paul Anka) might have wormed its way onto a latter day MJ album, not strong enough for Victory… so actually maybe not so fast. A lower level Gamble and Huff ballad, literally half written, they repeat the chorus and hook to give it the feel of a complete song and MJ’s voiced is messed with big time, the third time round they make the hook louder and stretch the hook to give us the misplaced concept that, in fact it is finished. The lyric? “love never felt so good, love never felt so fine”. Yeah, needs more work that’s for sure.
Everything else, especially the handclaps and strings seems like they were added in. The other version features Justin Timberlake and perhaps working with a corpse put Justin off because he has nothing to add to this track. The song is, to put it mildly, a little on the weak side, and Justin does nothing with his opportunity. Not aided and abetted by uh huhs and “Dance” and beats and a human beat box stuff perfore the creepiest hand off “Michael” know to man.
Jackson could certainly suck, any time he mentioned children your skin began to crawl, but This Is It and Michael are not on the same planet as Invincible. The truth is the post-mortem MJ has sucked from beginning to end “Love Never Felt So Good” doesn’t help in the slightest.
