We still don't have all the info about what happened in India, but it doesn’t sound good.
The metal band Metallica was supposed to launch the inaugural Formula One Dehli Grand Prix as the headliners, but the concert was canceled due to,…. Errr chaos? Riot?
According to the Wall Street Journal, the gates, which were supposed to open at 3 pm on Friday, were still not opened at 6 pm, and fans began shouting slogans, began kicking the barriers and climbing on top of cars.
Someone then announced that, due to technical difficulties, the show had been postponed to 4 pm Saturday!
Imagine the anger, and some fans, who managed to enter the venue literally trashed the stage, damaging equipment. According to the Hollywood reporter, ‘Some TV reports claimed equipment worth $200,000 was damaged while many fans were reportedly injured in a stampede at the Leisure Valley venue’.
What was announced as the first Metallica show in India is now canceled, and the band declared they were ‘deeply disappointed’ with the development, and on their website there is just the statement ‘Show cancelled due to safety concerns’.
It is not exactly clear but, according to Ultimateclassicrock, these supposedly ‘technical difficulties’ could actually be‘Metallica themselves pulling 'the plug due to growing safety and security concerns following the barricade collapse’ .
But the Economictimes is also reporting that ‘four people, including a top official of the company organizing the Metallica concert, were arrested early Saturday on charges of cheating and breach of trust, as the event was postponed at the last moment’.
This sounds very fishy, these people seemed really angry, it cannot be just the postponement that triggered this reaction, something really bad must have happened
