Meet The Shoe At Their Hotel

it's a nice day for a glass slipper

it’s a nice day for a glass slipper

With one of their best albums of the year under their belt, the melodic masterpiece I’m Okay, the Shoe are taking it on the road and playing one night only, July 9th, at the Gild Hotel on the Lower East Side, though their PR company seems to think it is a State secret how to actually buy a ticket.

I twittered the band but didn’t hear back either, so all I have is the date and I’m word this should be a great gig. I’m Okay is very addictive, “Dying of yearning, dripping funny wet…” is how a lilting waltz begins and the song is a beauty and the lyric is very sharp and I mention it because indeed it is not untypical of the album: this is a very assured offering.

Which leads me to singer Jena Malone, I’d read she was a celebrity actress (the cult fave “Donnie Darko” and “The Hunger Games”) but I didn’t quite know who she was until I saw the video below and then I thought, hey, she reminds me of someone. Jena reminds me of herself of course.

Celebrity will help but only to a degree (it didn’t make the slightest difference to me however). To put it mildly, the popular music field is too damn large, everybody gets listened to for ten minutes and then it gets difficult, though  I’m Okay deserves more than that.

Here is the PR release, maybe you’ll have better luck tracking em down!

Thompson Hotels X The Shoe Takeover Tour
After three stunning performances at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel on June 3rd, The Shoe is embarking on the international Thompson Hotels X The Shoe Takeover Tour. Known for their improvisational style and ability to fit their entire live setup in the trunk of a Fiat, The Shoe, duo of multi-talented Jena Malone (Donnie DarkoHunger Games) and Lem Jay Ignacio are ready for their musical sojourn.

The critical success of The Shoe’s debut LP, I’m Okay, is highlighted by the film for track“His Gorgeousness,” directed by celebrated artist Aliya Naumoff. The film, premiered by NOWNESS, follows Jena on a surreal romp in the woods.

For a sneak peek at The Shoe’s live show, check out a stripped down performance done exclusively for JustJared.
