Madonna Criticized Over Her Use Of Famous Black Leaders To Promote Her Album

mlk

Rebel Heart Martin Luther King

Madonna knows how to stir things up, and she is not afraid of another controversy. You have probably seen the art for the cover of her new album ‘Rebel Heart’ where her face is contained by wires… Well the famous provocater used her Instagram account to post a series of altered pictures of famous black leaders, to make them look like her album cover,… let’s see she used Martin Luther King, Jr., Nelson Mandela, and Bob Marley, with texts like: ‘This rebelheart had a dream’, ‘this rebelheart fought for freedom’, ‘this rebelheart sang about ONE LOVE!

Of course it didn’t go well with a lot of people,… talking about appropriation of black culture! I see another Azealia Banks fight coming! How dare she? Black freedom fighters used to selling rich-white-woman-merchandize!!! And her last message was :

Dear haters, I have so much MORE for you to be mad at…Be patient! I don’t know what she is talking about, but she also added pictures of John Lennon, Lady Diana, Marilyn Monroe, Frida Kahlo, Jesus, Basquiat, even Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga, altered the same way. So it is no much about black culture.

On Friday night, Madonna released a statement saying ‘she was not comparing herself to King and Mandela but acknowledging that they were rebels’. She also said the images were fan-generated and defended herself against claims of racism, as she also posted other famous faces who were not black.

Anyway, I can’t see how these images can be racist, and are they offensive? Naaaahh, I don’t think so, it is just pointless, if people find these pictures offensive, they need to find something better to do with their lives… At the same time, it looks like Madonna doesn’t know what to do to attract attention, how could she possibly trigger more scandal and more controversy? She is getting old, she can’t remove her clothes anymore, so she has to find some other ways…. What about using others’ fame to promote her album? This is the thing with the internet, everything is free and widely available, imagine a billboard campaign with all these famous people a few decades ago? May be a bit expensive to get all these copyrights? But with Instagram and Photoshop, it’s a a piece of cake.
