"Rave On" was the last Buddy Holly tribute album and fast on its heels is a charity benefit tribute release.
"Rave On" had McCartney and Lou Reed, "Listen To Me" will have Zooey Deschanel, Brian Wilson, Patrick Stump, Jackson Browne, the Fray, Chris Isaak, Ringo Starr, Cobra Starship, Natalie Merchant, Linda Ronstadt, Stevie Nicks, Lyle Lovett and of course the 'others', yet named.
Maybe its not hipper but its a different Cricket tribute that will include artists discussing and jamming to hits of the 50s. They have yet to announce the track listing but I'm interested to hear who's doing what. Cobra Starship and Jackson Browne on the same album is news enough, throw the other live Beatle on there and it just becomes surreal
Proceeds from the sale of this tribute are allocated for the Grammy Foundation's "Grammy Camps" and Artists' House Music, both of which are programs for budding musical talents.
