I saw this girl four years ago, and although she is a Los Angelinos, she seems to be doing very well over seas, as she is premiering her new track with Kerrang! a UK-based magazine.

Carré Callaway, aka Queen Kwong, wants you to believe that rock & roll is still very alive, especially the raw and intense part of rock which made you fall in love with the Stooges, Patti Smith, Debbie Harry or even Karen O. But I know that Callaway dislikes comparisons

‘Cold Daggers’ is a dangerous and furious track, with Callaway’s aggressive and hurt vocals, while the music is slowing creating a chaotic punk mess crashing in weird distortion. The loud drums follow the tambourines and directly pound in your chest, while the track builds a dark suspense as if we were stuck in the middle of a gun duel in some crazy western, and soon the intensity is insufferable but also irresistible. This girl is not playing it safe and it is so refreshing. I have checked a few other tracks on the Queen Kwong’s Soundcloud page and the ambiance stays somber and infectious, even haunting at time, with pure feline aggression (‘Bells On’) and some rare sensual intensity. It’s visceral noisy punk garage rock with a modern twist.

Carré Callaway was discovered at 17 by Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor, and even opened for him during his 2005 tour as a solo artist, but the current lineup of the band is kind of incredible since it features Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland, Awolnation drummer Hayden Scott, and bassist Fred Sablan (Marilyn Manson, Goon Moon, 8mm)!

According to Kerrang, this new single will be officially released on May 17th on Dissention Records, and will be featured on the band’s upcoming debut album, which should be out later this year.
