This Monday is a night as big as any Governors Ball, CMA or CBGB Fest you care to mention, The Metropolitan Opera Summer Recital Series featuring Janai Brugger, Nathan Gunn, Isabel Leonard, and pianist Dan Saunders is not just for Opera fans, not even especially for Opera fans, it is for fans of singers and it has never been less than magnificent in the five years I’ve covered it. And it is free at Summerstage. Unmissable, I can’t recommend it highly enough.
Monday – Juicy J – Irving Plaza – It isn’t that Katy Perry made him a star… no wait it is, but it is that the rapper, DJ and record producer deserved it and ran with it.
Tuesday – Spoon – King’s Theatre – When I saw em in 2014 I was very impressed and their last album was a goodie so expect terrific indie rock.
Wednesday – Barry Manilow – Barclay Center – One last night at the Copa
Thursday – Shamir – MHOW – The gender neutral falsetto has a great soul album just released.
Thursday – The Tomas Doncker Band – The Classon Social Club – Tough fal Marla Mase is the featured artist.
Thu, Fri – Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga – Radio City Music Hall – Assuming he has recovered from his cold of course.
Saturday – The Falu Bollywood Orchestra – Highline Ballroom – I guess dreams of crossover are on standby
Saturday – Jungle – Summerstage – UK disco band crossing out of dance and big time.
Sunday – NKOTB, Nelly, TLC – MSG – I swear, if it wasn’t on a SUnday I’d consider it
