Rhiannon Giddens

The only time I’ve seen Rhiannon Giddens, either with or without Carolina Chocolate Drops, was at the Town Hall as part of T-Bone’s boring new folk extravaganza and she left little impression, and I wasn’t crazy about her New Basement Tapes album, but her current album Tomorrow Is My Turn is all that Gospel blues soul plus plus plus and so I am back to the Town Hall on Thursday to hear what I missed

Thursday – The Devil Wears Prada – Irving Plaza – I wasn’t crazy over them when I caught the band at Best Buy a coupla years ago, but on record they are Christianity’s last best chance.

Thursday – Bleachers – Terminal 5 – They kinda sucked last time I saw em as well, however… the time before that they were awesome.

Friday – Public Service Announcement – Bowery Ballroom – Hotly hyped new UK band, they’re The Race For Space bears another listen, my buddy Kevin Mazzarelli just did the sound for em and swears they’re one to watch.

Friday – The Sick Bag Song by Nick Cave – Florence Gould Hall – Alyson is catching this reading from his new novel in LA

Friday – Young Fathers – MHOW – Very excited about this one, my fave new band of 2015; Nigerian Scots from Glasgow sound like nothing else around.

Saturday – Sufjan Stevens – Beacon Theatre – His new album Carrie And Lowell is so great I sincerely regret not getting a ticket to this show and will have to check out stubhub and keep my fingers crossed.
