EDM live on stage is both interactive and almost ambient, you can dance to it or you can float by, you can pay attention or you can leave it in the background of your mind. I saw Skrillex at Governors Ball last summer and was so impressed I finally realized he wasn’t Deadmau5 and learnt to love “brostep”! I will be spending New Year’s Eve with Skrillex, Diplo and… A$AP Ferg, Rudimental and Yellowclaw!!! At MSG no less.
Monday – Patti Smith – Webster Hall – I don’t see why Patti killed her always sold old NYE at Bowery Ballroom just to play predates at Webster Hall. Go figure.
Monday – The Disco Biscuits – Best Buy – Now the Allman’s are gone, these guys are major contenders for best jam band, not least because they have an awesome rhythm section.
Monday – Vernon Reid – Iridium – Is the lead guitarist of Living Color under or over rated? Yes.
Tuesday – Wednesday – Erasure – T5 – Vince Clarke’s third great band.
Tuesday – Wednesday – Gov’t Mule – Beacon Theatre – I saw these guys like 20 years ago and then had tix for NYE 2011 and got sick, with the Allman Brother’s gone it is time to check out Warren’s only band still standing.
Tuesday – Wednesday – The Hold Steady – MHOW – Their last album kinda sucked but they did themselves proud opening for the Replacements at Forest Hills this September.
Wednesday – Holy Ghost – Irving Plaza – Best profiles in the business
Wednesday – Elton John – Barclay Center – He better not get too arty, that’s all I’m saying
Friday – Gogol Bordello – T5 – Downgraded from NYE, I bet the party will just keep going.
Saturday – The Temptations And the Four Tops – The Palace Theatre – Sure, most of em are dead, but two are still around.
