Lenny Kravitz has some incredible tunes. As the hippy love boy with the dreads and pseudo Jim Morrison swag he really took charge of his genre years ago. Great songs and great talent aside I cant help but wonder why no one has picked up on this latest bit of contradiction.
Kravitz is designing shoes for Toms. Toms is the philanthropic organization that give shoes to children in under developed countries 1 for 1 with every pair purchased. At $50.00 minimum a pop for a pair of canvas slip ons with piss poor construction I cant help but wonder if we are harming those less fortunate. It's also fun to note that Toms are sold at retailers such as Nordstroms so its a way for the hoity to feel good about themselves. Unfortunately/fortunately I have been victim to this as my child is obsessed with them- well done on the empathetic marketing plan.
Now on to Lenny. He has designed the adorable shoe shown here. Splattered with his lyrics of "Let Love Rule", cute huh? Yeah I'm sure they will look great and guess what!? These shoes are part of Toms "Vegan" shoe line. AWESOME! I love the attention that veganism is getting- even if it is from Toms brand. It's nice that its actually becoming a smidgen less fringe. How lovely for Kravitz to partake in this wonderful niche! He is all hippy dippy trippy so he must be vegetarian or vegan right? I mean, it fits the image.
Well this vegan designer must not have had a fact checker or filter around cuz when he was explaining how he has purchased numerous Toms shoes for guests to wear at his home he said the following:
No shoes in my house. I like to lay around the floors, and I have nice floor coverings and shags and sheepskins, and I don’t like bringing in things from the outside,”
Were those sheepskins still on live sheep? What a fucking moron- why design a vegan shoe if you role around on dead sheep?
