What gives with this woman? She ain’t a strong black woman she is an arrogant ridiculous diva with one great solo album to her name and not much more. When I saw her at Governors Island a coupla years ago I was completely shocked at how lousy she was. Re-arranging her handful of hits so it was unllistenable and her voice growly and ugly? Why would she do that?
Then things got worse. Going on stage at midnight for 8pm concerts and still slaughtering the audiences with terrible, terrible versions. If you heard her MTV Unplugged you probably know what I mean.
Well Hill just played London on saturday, where she got herself booed for
1. Arriving on stage 90 minutes late
and
2. rearranging the songs so thorougghly nobody can recognize them.
By the time Lauryn stopped playing nyc lastyear, she couldn’t sell out two nights at the bowery ballroom. You can’t pull this shit indefinitely, people wise up. Now it is the UK’s turn to learn their lesson. A twitterer wrote: “Dear God of RNB singers, I ask that in your mercy, you speak to Lauryn Hill’s heart and make her perform ONE song normally”.
I guess the Marleys are rich enought to detonate their careers.
