If you are like me and follow Ke$ha’s career closely [insert irony here], you probably think that Dr. Luke was a real doctor? I read the news and thought she had been abused by her doctor! But no, this guy, whose real name is Lukasz Sebastian Gottwald, is in fact her producer, and the pop star is suing him for the worst: a decade of mistreatment including sexual assaults and abuse charges…
‘This lawsuit is a wholehearted effort by Kesha to regain control of her music career and her personal freedom after suffering for 10 years as a victim of mental manipulation, emotional abuse and sexual assault at the hands of Dr. Luke,’ declared Mark Geragos, Ke$ha’s attorney. ‘The facts presented in our lawsuit paint a picture of a man who is controlling and willing to commit horrible acts of abuse in an attempt to intimidate an impressionable, talented, young female artist into submission for his personal gain. Kesha is focused on moving her life and her career beyond this terrible time.’
According to the LA Times, the suit claims, ‘On one occasion, Dr. Luke forced Ms. Sebert to snort an illicit drug before they were scheduled to take a flight. On the plane, Dr. Luke continuously forced himself on Ms. Sebert while she was intoxicated and drugged.’… ‘Dr. Luke instructed Ms. Sebert to take what he described as ‘sober pills.’ … Ms. Sebert took the pills and woke up the following afternoon, naked in Dr. Luke’s bed, sore and sick with no memory of how she got there.’ And it goes on and on. The suit even blames Dr. Luke for Ke$ha’s depression and eating disorder, and declares that her doctors (the real ones this time) concluded that the ‘unrelenting emotional and psychological abuse’ by Dr. Luke caused her to suffer ‘severe depression, post-traumatic stress, social isolation, and panic attacks’ and that keeping contact with him ‘would be ‘life threatening’.
Ten years into this and nothing has filtered before? It’s always possible but who knows where is the truth now that Dr. Luke has responded (through his lawyer), declaring that this ‘is nothing more than a continuation of her bad and offensive acts.’ Dr. Luke is in fact suing back:
‘As set forth in the complaint that we have filed on behalf of Dr. Luke, Kesha and her mother are engaged in a campaign of publishing outrageous and untrue statements about Dr. Luke to third parties, including scurrilous and false statements of purported physical and mental abuse of Kesha,’ declared his lawyer.
I don’t know who is telling the truth of course, both characters look fishy to me, but this says a lot about the music industry and how disgusting this world is. She was signed to Dr. Luke’s label at 18 and this story, true or not, echoes so much many similar stories, a young girl and a powerful Hollywood figure pushing behind, forcing her to lay hits after hits…. However, may be Kesha should have taken another lawyer, as Mark Geragos represented Michael Jackson when he was accused of child molestation, and Chris Brown after he was arrested for assault on Rihanna…. Not a good sign for me!
