In the series, there is always something exciting happening in Los Angeles, you could attend the premiere of the ‘Human Sadness’ video with Julian Casablancas in person, on Wednesday night at the Cinefamily… Great! Except that the screening is already sold out! I often miss events like this one because there is so much happening that you have to be on alert on so many fronts, it is close to impossible.
Julian Casablancas + The Voidz have released a 38 second-clip of their upcoming video for ‘Human Sadness’ (off their last year’s album ‘Tyranny’) and they will be screening the 11-minute long video in a series of theaters across the US. There are also screenings in New York, Brooklyn, Chicago, Denver, Washington DC, Boston, Miami, Nashville, Montreal, from Wednesday 20th to Tuesday 26th, and may be not all of them are sold-out? You can check the availability on the Cult Records website. Still I am very disappointed, the Los Angeles screening sounded very good because Julian is gonna be there!
‘Human Sadness’ was a symphonic and epic song, I actually don’t know if you could still call this a song, it was a bit more than that, part experimentation part requiem, the type of thing that you love right away or despise immediately. The 38 seconds of the tease let us think that the video will be also epic, with dramatic sights of protests, wars, destruction, asteroid collision, love and Julian of course. Directed by Warren Fu and Nicholaus Goosen, the mini movie will go online on the 27th, and I wonder, aren’t these previews an original and new form to promote a song which has already been out for some time? It’s a way to make an event of something already released, something people may have already forgotten. It’s well known, everyone has the attention span of a gold fish these days, and an album released eight months ago already belongs to pre-history. I don’t think ‘Tyranny’ even reached a decent place in the US charts, and it’s a shame considering the amount of crap that piles up in the charts.
