So Jack White did an exclusive streaming on VEVO from Webster Hall in NYC on Friday night, and there I was armed with a bottle of Poland Spring sparkling raspberry lime water, barefoot and in jammie pants with speakers to the max and a bowl of grapes in my big fat office chair.
Free of charge and not having to smell anyones sweat I sat back and watch Jack White and his band of merry makers on two cameras. A cute idea to have it on 'venue cam' and,'garys cam'. Gary did a nice job. Who the hell is Gary? Why that's Gary Oldman! The actor who nailed the role of Sid Vicious in Sid and Nancy and is now a hipster director! Me and seven million of my lazy ass friends (yup that was the hit count) spent our Friday night glued to a monitor and it wasnt porn, it was rock and roll.
Watching Jack made me realize that he ain't all that. He gets a bit jam band at times and seems oddly detached from his audience as if he forgot they're there. I have been singing the praises of Jacks new album "Blunderbuss' all week and for me that's a long time- I lose interest way fast, there is just too much to hear to be bogged down with 'faves'. Live the tunes come across just as perfect. I wonder though, what accent is White using? A cross between Gone With The Wind Slave and Cowboy Curtis. He's a confused man. The all girl band that started off the night with him was fantastic yet all looked like Loraine Neuman.
Breaking in to Seven Nation Army" got the crowd alive but Jack, he seemed to be in his garage. I really don't think he is able to connect with an audience. He sort of sits in his own happy place. The band does the job and they all sound fantastic but if you were looking for some Jack time forget it- he's not playing.
I love these streaming shows cuz I don't have to deal with people like you. I don't have to stand in beer or deal with your pda's. That sorta makes me gag. Yeah I don't feel the heat of the lights or the show but I can see Jacks pores..and they're huge.
The streaming comments are another bonus, between the guys tweeting 'play skynyrd' and the trolls its really rather entertaining. This show sponsored by American Express wasn't too obnoxious in advertising but yeah the logo was there.
He closed with "Goodnight Irene" and he actually had a bit of personality ahead of it. I don't know if he is incredibly shy or just so weird that he is socially inept. No encore, he may just have forgotten to return to the stage.
He's so cool. That was awesome.
