Iggy Pop And Best Coast Collaboration For HBO's True Blood

Even if you don’t have HBO, you have heard about True Blood, the endless gore-porn series that brings up more gay vampires, bad werewolves and bitch witches at each episode than a Halloween parade on Santa Monica boulevard.

Anyway, the music has always been great, if you like the swampy-bluesy style, and last year they had for example featured great covers such as Nick Cave and Neko Case’s ‘She’s Not There’, Karen Elson’s ‘Season of the Witch’, and Nick Lowe’s ‘Cold Grey Light of Dawn’. In the past, the soundtrack had also featured Cobra Verde’s ‘Play With Fire’, The Watson Twins’ ‘Just Like Heaven’, The Flying Burrito Brothers’ ‘Christine's Tune (A.K.A. Devil in Disguise)’, Ryan Adams’ ‘Two’, John Doe’s ‘The Golden State’, Beck’s ‘Bad Blood’, Lucinda Williams w/Elvis Costello’s ‘Kiss Like Your Kiss’, Eels’ ‘Fresh Blood’, Bob Dylan’s ‘Beyond Here Lies Nothin’,  just to name a few of my favorites.

This time, it has been announced that an unexpected duo will get together to record a track for an episode of the series: Iggy Pop and Best Coast will premiere their collaboration, ‘Let’s Boot and Rally’ on July 5 via KCRW and then the following Sunday, July 8 on HBO. The title seems like a real program already and Bethany Cosentino said it was ‘an honor to get to sing with a legend, and for such a fantastic show', whereas the godfather of punk declared ‘I've always liked to bite. I guess this makes me a singing vampire, does this mean I have a license to suck? Hi Bethany…’

Now, if Iggy were playing a vampire, I would actually watch that show.
