An early day at work, I went to Madison Square Garden on my way home to pick em some tix. The Hold Steady at Beacon Theatre Thursday October 7th was an easy one. They had been tremendous at Bowery Ballroom on the first day of the tour and I had no reason to believe they wouldn’t rock the Beacon to its very foundations on the last night of their Heaven Is Whenever tour.
I had been planning to get a tix forever and a trip to Madison Square Garden’s box office (Cablevision own both rooms) meant a) I could get an aisle seat and b) i could save myself Ticketmasters ridiculous handling fees. As it happens, the woman who sold me the tix informed me it was the last available tix. The Hold Steady had sold out the night.
Gorillaz is trickier. The concert is Friday October 8th which happens to be my birthday! 54 years old and never felt worse. No, I am not even close to begin a fan but I was influenced by anumber of things.
1. The album is # 1 on CMJ’s charts -I found that both strange and interesting.
2. I don’t necessarily wanna see bands I like. I find it telling to go see bands I don’t like.
3. Damon Alburn is great live. Absolutely, no doubt, brilliant live performer.
and
finally
er
4. I don’t hate the album as much as I did do.
So that’s how I spent $78.00 on a Friday afternoon.
