Governor’s Ball Nearing Sell Out

cabana01-lg

I received this information from Governors Ball today:

ALL SINGLE DAY GA & VIP : SOLD OUT*

3 DAY ADMISSION: VIP Regular SOLD OUT*

That leaves only Three Day GA and some superduper expensive tickets which, when my ship comes in, and let’s be honest, unless more of you cats read this music website might not be in this lifetime, I would buy in a heartbeat: I would love to be driven around behind the stages from one show to another in a  golf cart, and have some intern hand holding me to the front of the stage.

BUT I don’t so I shan’t.

In the meanwhile, Governors Ball deserves the sell oput to a degree but lets take a closer look shall we:

Drake – His new mix tape is a legend itself and he was great with Little Wayne last year – A

My Morning Jacket – The new album is a bore, and at this time in their career even MSG is too big for em – C+

Deadmau 5 – I can’t stand this DJ and his start is descending fast – C+

Ryan Adams – He has played quite a bit locally, I saw him last December and he wasn’t that terrific. Big fucking get – B

Lana Del Rey – When I saw her at the tiny Irving Plaza a coupla years ago, she was completely atrocious… we will see – C

The Black Keys – Terrible in arenas and I see no reason to expect better at a festival, plus their last album was a dog.

How about the second tier? Florence + The Machine, St. Vincent, The Decemberists, Noel Gallagher, Bjork, Conor, Hot Chip, Flying Lotus… not bad, right? The DJs could fill T5, the name bands could fill Radio City.

But nothing jumps out really the way, say, Kanye West or Guns N Roses, Outkasts or Skrillex did back in the day. Not enough hip hop either, where are the Action Bronsons and Danny Browns? We got Chance The Rapper last year, no equivalent here.

So, it seems a touch disappointing. The up and comers are particularly disappointing. Only Kate Tempest looks like a thriller.
