Let me give you a bit of history here. I dont judge, cuz I’m not like you, but something needs to be said about my generations punk heroes and how they have morphed into fucking douchebags. I don’t know what it is but I suppose I’m guilty too. We think we still ‘got it’, when in fact, we don’t. We’re old.
Glenn was a founding member of the punk legends The Misfits. I’ll even give him a nod for Samhain but then things got shitty. When Glenn fronted Danzig is when his ego exceeded max volume. I will make note he is pretty accomplished and if I’m not mistaken even wrote a tune for Johnny Cash. But he’s still touring and unlike Cash – not dead.
I ask you to take a peak at this video from a recent Florida gig. In it a pot bellied pasty Glenn asks someone in the audience to punch a fan for video taping. After a finger wave like yo mama would do. Now we all know that video tapng is a huge NO in most joints but we also know we all do it. To ask the crowd to punch someone- is douchebaggery at its finest.
See- Glenn used to look good. I clearly remember ‘back in the day’ backstage antics and yup- the boy looked damn good. At age 58 he looks like a doughy Elvis without the hips. I cant blame him for not wanting it on video. BUT If I were that kid taping (made props son- ya did good!) I’d have whipped my fucking shoe at the poser. But see, the cellcam master did one bettr than I. He put it up on Youtube for us all to see. Well played Son or Daughter, well played.
