Gilbert O’ Sullivan: Peggy Lee Tribute Album, Mini UK Tour And No NYC

You remember Gilbert O’Sullivan, the melodic superstar sad sack singer songwriter from the early 1970s, he graced us with us suicidal “Alone Again (Naturally)” and paedophilia in training “Clair”, the oxymoronic “Nothing Rhymed” and many more. Huge in the UK, a one hit wonder in the USA,stuck somewhere between his Charlie Chaplin “Hello Uncle Ray” public image (belied by his good looks) and the times which changed enough for him to not capture glam, the way, say, Elton John did, he was in the nostalgia racks before the 1970s were over s even if he continued to record pretty good music.

In the UK Gilbert seems to follow Steve Harvey and Cockney Rebel round the scampi and chips circuit, throwing in an occasional new album.

In the US? We never see him.

So news of a new eight date tour why exciting in theory, I’ve never seen him live and would love to, in the UK, which includes hot room like the lLbert Hall in London, in support of a Peggy Lee in Latin mode tribute album Latin ala G (I agree, but not my call init?)  his twenty third album!!!, he won’t make the trip to nyc.

I don’t quite see why not. I have no doubt that O’Sullivan could sell out BB Kings with ease (I wouldn’t miss it for the world), but yet again, Uncle Ray let’s us down.

I’m guessing Latin ala G will have to drop Stateside June 9th.
