"One Nation Under A Groove" is one of the most well known funk tunes of all time. Its creator George Clinton, the mulit colored dreadlocked master will no longer receive royalties when its played- and its played allot, One Nation as wells as "Hardcore Jollies", "The Electric Spanking of War Babies", "Uncle Jam Wants You", have all been stripped from Clintons bank.
The royalties for these classics will now go directly to Clintons lawyers at the firm of Hendricks & Lewis. The payout will go to settle debts Clinton accumulated between 2005 and 2008. Hendricks & Lewis successfully sued in 2010 for the money and George had managed to pay back $340,000 but that wasn't enough so a federal judge ordered the songs to be turned over.
This isn't the worse of it. With this federal ruling the law firm now has the right to these songs which means they can use it as they see fit. Expect a whole lot of commercials and tag lines ripping off these tunes. They'll want to have it heard as much as possible so they can recoup their funds.
Details of the actual dollar amount that Clinton owes is somewhat sketchy. No firm dollar amount seems readily available. According to TMZ, the law firm may now sell or license the music as it deems fit to get the remaining money. When the past due amount is paid, the ownership of the songs will revert to Clinton.
