Foster the People’s “Don’t Stop (Color on the Walls)”, Reviewed

The band Foster the People, of “Pumped Up Kicks” fame (Iknow, totally overplayed right?), has released a new music video for their song “Don’t Stop (Color on the Walls)” and I couldn’t be more pleased.

The song just isn’t as good as the band’s previous singles but the video completely makes up for that. I’m a fan of story based music videos, "Don’t Stop (Color on the Walls)" didn’t even show one clip of the band performing, which was fantastic.

The video starts off with a man, presumably a driving exam instructor, running up to a car with a clipboard and a bag of some sort, to give an exam. What surprised me is that the woman behind the wheel of the car, whose driving exam turns out to me quite memorable, was none other than actress Gabourey Sidibe. Combined with the lead singer of Foster the People, the two make quite the odd pair.

The driving instructor then seems exasperated at the fact that she’s not going fast enough and takes over the driving, much to Miss Sidibe’s discontent. It is at this point that we realize the man is a thief and he is trying to make his getaway. I could tell you all about the insane roller coaster ride that is this music video, but you can’t understand the insanity that is Foster the People until you watch it yourself.

If, like they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, then this video is worth a good 2 million words plus an odd expression of bewilderment shared amongst viewers. Perhaps you’ll watch this video and then realize why I’m hoping it isn’t only me that has the sudden urge to steal a car, cover it in paint, and crash it in to things while blasting Foster the People.
