Everything eventually is for sale. Years and years later the microphones used by John Lennon are up for auction along with other studio equipment from a home studio installed in 1970 at his estate at Tittenhurst Park, UK.
These microphones were used to record The Plastic Ono Band, and Imagine. There is no indication of why these are up for bid or where the proceeds will be disbursed. It is odd to have such and auction without this information. I don't think Lennons estate is in financial trouble, though I suppose I could be wrong.
Recording equipment specialist seller MJQ Ltd, is handling the sale, and is also selling a mixing console from London's Abbey Road studios, which has been used for recordings for the past 18 years. Other Beatles collectibles include an acetate disc used for mastering recordings, in which all four Beatles have etched their names a coffee percolator owned by Starr – who later acquired Lennon's home.
Strange matter to have a coffee pot thrown in to this historic studio offering don't you think? I'm holding out for Harrison's Toaster.
The online sale begins on May 11th.
