Los Angeles’ favorite young punk rockers have a new video for one of the songs off their debut album. I sure don’t miss an occasion to mention FIDLAR, as I first wrote about them in 2011 when there were about 5 people watching them at the Echo, and they are now in Rolling Stone, Spin and Pitchfork! Obviously, their songs had such an immediate loveable quality, mixing old school punk, rowdy garage rock, and riotous energy, that I was certain they would gain a larger audience.
The video, for ‘Max Can’t Surf’, is a trip, ‘the Zuk Trip’ on some hi-tech skateboards, surfing the ecstasy pill all over the world and beyond as if they were reacting Back-to-the-Future on acid. They even almost collide with a flying pizza girl in a far faraway galaxy, and Zac Carper‘s face on the moon singing about smoking two packs a day, looks totally ridiculous, but Fuck It Dog Life’s A Risk.
It’s also funny how this song is sung differently on the album compared to the more agitated version on their previous EP DIYDUI, as if they had recorded it in a druggier/drunker kind of state! But the special effects for the video have probably made a big hole in their budget, so they are touring with Wavves in the following months…. Wavves? These two bands were totally made for each other, probably a lot of weed-beer-parties in perspective!
