Pete Wentz, Patrick Stump, Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley, those are the men of Fall Out Boy. They went on hiatus in 2009 and zammo came out of nowhere with a mediocre new song and a flurry of club shows that sold out lickety split.
I have a very special place in my heart for FOB. They were one of the first bands I could listen to with my kid and actually like. It wasn’t Barney or Sesame St, it was legit rock with a nice hook. I thank FOB for ushering my kid into cool Considering she first starting listening to theme when she was about 6, so go figure.
Their new album has a lot riding on it. Set to be released this month it has a boatload of buzz but the hob knobbing stories are now making the rounds.
The album, “Save Rock and Roll”, includes a track of the same name featuring Elton John. Say what? Patrick and Pete loved working with him, although they did feel slightly intimidated.
"He's awesome man!" they gushed to Australian radio show hosts Kyle and Jackie O. "He's incredible, because he's Elton, so he carries with him, 'I'm Sir Elton.' He's a genuine nice guy, but it puts a lot of pressure on because you don't want to mess with him."
“Mess with him’, I mean seriously who would mess with EJ? Like kick his ass? I would love to see the toupee’ fly but really he’s just a doughy queen I see no need to mess with him.
The album also features a collaboration with Courtney Love, entitled “Rat a Tat”. Courtney Love?! FOB pulled out the B list for this one! "There was a lot of camaraderie with her. She's out here a little bit, but she's real smart… You don't really realize, but she's circling everybody, very predatory. In a very intelligent way, she remembers all these numbers and weird stuff from years ago… She's cool," they smiled. "And she offered a different perspective. At the end of the day, anything on the record, we wanted to wait until we were all really happy with it."
That right there makes me want to hear “Rat a Tat” more than any other tune on the release! “but she’s really smart”! I love it!
“Save Rock and Roll” is out this Monday, April 15
Mary Magpie go see them for the fourth time on May 18th.
