Hmmm -from the mixed blessings file, the Faces are planning on going on tour next year with original members Ronnie Wood, Kenny Jones and Ian McClagen but no Ronnie Lane because he’s, well, dead and no Rod Stewart because he can’t stop dithering, plus with another hit album under his belt, why split the loot five ways?
The Faces without Stewart played the Royal Albert Hall last month. Mick Hucknell of Simply Red replaced Stewart which is nothing is not a nauseating though. Hucknell? Stewart can sing soul but he’s not a soul singer, Hucknell can sing soul but can he sing, I dunno, “Cindy Incidently” -Hucknell may have the depth but does he have the lightness?
Clashmusic.com reported of the Royal Albert Hall benefit: “Arriving to a rapturous reception, the three Faces, supported by Ronnie’s former Rolling Stones colleague Bill Wyman on bass, swaggered and frolicked their way through three of their best known hits, ‘Cindy Incidentally’, ‘Ooh La La’ and the ferocious ‘Stay With Me’ in a way that only the Faces know how.”
Mike of Mike and the Mechanics and Mr. Wide Eyed and Legless Andy Fairweather-Low shared lead vocals. Andy would be a hugely better choice than Hucknell for lead vocals. Former Sex Pistols and Rich Kids bass player will take over from Bill Wyman -McClagan used to play keybs for Glenn’s Rich Kids.
Anyway, I’d plunk down my cash for that trip to 70s pub rock any day.
