‘Evil Lives’ by Bosco Delrey

I am not sure how I stumbled on him , but ‘Evil Lives’ by Bosco Delrey is a strange combination of many things,  upbeat and creepy, grandiose and intimate at the same time, with a big synth-organ versus some intimate vocals, vintage and electronic together, creating a multi-influenced wall of sound.

In the song, there is a little bit of Beck-meets-Massive Attack, but I heard other tracks that were so different, so much more rock’ n’ roll, this guy is simply really unclassifiable.

A New Jersey native, Bosco Delrey went to Tennessee to record at the Easley McCain Recording, where so many others (White Stripes, Sonic Youth, Pavement, Wilco,…) did before him.

On April 26th, he will release a debut album ‘Everybody Wah’ via Diplo’s label Mad Decent, and Diplo himself has described him as ‘a sort of garbage can Elvis from New Jersey… teaspoon craziness, a pinch of rockabilly, and full cup of soul dressed in a leather jacket.’ So I guess I will have to listen to this strangely seducing fusion.
