We didn't cover the anniversary of Elvis Presley's death. It happens every year for decades now and well here is what happens in a nutshell.
People (mostly from the UK!) descend upon Elvis Presley Blvd in Memphis TN and for a week they spend insane amounts of money on souvenirs and entertainment. None of it really worth the cost but it makes the people feel good to be a part of the event. Then there is a nice candle light stroll where fans heft themselves up the driveway of the Presley estate (its not that big btw- no mansion even if you take in to consideration the outbuildings.) This is the big draw considering on average days you are shuttled over from the shopping mecca. They don't want your kind on the lawn.
But this year fans got a little surprise. After the sweat drenched huff (fans are large on average and I am not being cruel but rather stating fact. I am not sure why but the women are quite round and the men quite small) they were greeted by the two women who rocked Presley's world. Lisa Marie Presley and her mother 'Cilla. This was the first time either had attended the event. Trust me, there are some real anti Priscilla fans so I bet there were as many boo's as 'yay's in that crowd.
“You should see this from our point of view,” said Priscilla Presley, looking out at the crowd from an elevated stage. Lisa Marie Presley stood alongside her, looking at thousands of lit candles held aloft by the fans. “It’s truly a sight to behold.”
"I've always avoided this because I felt that it would be too emotional,” said Lisa Marie Presley, “but I really felt it was important to come down here tonight. I love you very, very, very much."'
No she doesn't- she may be intrigued at the fans obsession but she doesn't love them at all. I hate when performers (is Lisa Marie a performer or a parody) should that they love the fans- they appreciate them perhaps. In this case she should appreciate them as they keep Elvis Presley Enterprises in good financial standing despite the economy, but love? No.
In this photo the two appear to be political candidates- nice teleprompter. I'm sure those words are from the heart. How I despise this charade. I hear Lisa Marie about to release a new album.. great timing and a great time to 'love' your dads fan. Fine marketing ladies, well done.
