Sure, I’m not crazy about Meek Mill or Nicki Minaj: hits ne as though one peaked before her first album was released and the other has quite managed to peak at all. Clearly folks, this is the Radissons of rappers. The MOR of rap, folsk who sound like everybody else but not as good. Hell, Future whipped his butt last week.
Still, Drake’s response to Meek’s claim that Drake didn’t write his own raps seems a little overdone. Meek really isn’t in Drake’s league so the sneer seems a little stuck on Drake’s face, like his smiling but very very stiffly, not at all amused, you know. Why so glum, kid? You know the first rule of fight club, never punch down, why are you punching down??
Well he shouldn’t have with “Charged Up” a somewhat weak response to Meek’s rude and unpolitical claim about Drake (for heaven’s sake, Drake rapped on his album: “I’m done doing favors” Drake slapped back). But by refusing to show any emotions, he came off offhanded. Drake didn’t make his point.
In the world of rap, there is always an answer song awaiting but Drake didn’t wait for it, and this time he killed him dead: “Back To Back” is the real deal. Trigger fingers to twitter singers is awful good, but capping it with you got bloodied by a singing n- is better. And that’s only one rhyme.
And still, it seems a little heavy duty, I guess Meek Mill had too many ways to get smacked down, Drake couldn’t resist it.
