Debbie Harry Hates The Internet

Debbie Harry seems like a smart cookie, seems like all that right, at 68 is still on top of her game more or less. So what the hell does her “I hate the internet comment” mean exactly? That she hates Itunes? The New York Times? Television? Music? How do you hate the internet?

First here is the quote off NME: “‘I think that there will be some kind of Luddite backlash. People in general will just all of a sudden unhook themselves. It’s such a waste of time.”

”I’m really only concerned with letting people have a certain amount of me – not all of me. I’ve always fought very hard for a certain amount of anonymity and privacy. I’m very selective and it’s very minimal for me.

”People are looking for public notice without actually being in showbiz. Everyone thinks they’re in showbiz online.

”If I choose to send something out, or write something to a friend, that’s one thing, but I’m not looking for that kind of attention, I have another kind.”

OK, so she is an idiot. What she hates is social media and what she hates about it is the lack of privacy and that everybody can believe they are a star just like Debbie herself. Gnomic in the extreme, but still, many people hate Social Media and many more people hate the lack of privacy -though I think that train has passed, anonymity belongs to a different millenium, nt hate the Internet? That’s like hating music because you don’t like Justin Bieber.

‘The truth is the Internet isn’t this thing you can hate, hating the Internet is like the mail because it brings you bills to pay. The Internet is a FORM OF DISTRIBUTION. You may well hate what is being distributed but that does not entail hating the Internet. If Debbie lives to be 108 she might well see the death of cable TV as we know it (it will become closer to telephone transmissions -did nobody notice the Disney Dish deal?) but she will never see the Internet gain or lose popularity.
