I suppose this is a preview of what I will have the opportunity to enjoy/endure on January 31st at the Palladium! History will tell which one of the two verbs will prevail! According to Rolling stone, Dave Grohl premiered his documentary about Van Nuys recording studio Sound City, at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, and he and 17 musician, who had all once recorded at Sound City, played a super long set… and when I say long, it was long, it lasted more than 3 hours! Jeezz, if they repeat this when I see them, I will have to take the next day off!
But who were these musicians? Rage Against the Machine’s Brad Wilk, Queens of the Stone Age’s Alain Johannes, Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic, Masters of Reality’s Chris Goss, Lee Ving, Cheap Trick’s Rick Nielsen, Slip Knot’s Corey Taylor, Rick Springfield, John Fogerty and Stevie Nicks among others, and the evening was a series of mini sets backed by Foo Fighters. All of them played several songs, up to seven tunes from their catalog and other ones especially recorded for the film… oh no, 17 x 7 makes more than 100 songs, and even with a lower estimation of 50 songs, this is way too much for one single evening.
Grohl is very attached to the project as he declared at the film’s premiere:
‘I consider this to be the most important thing I’ve ever done, artistically, of all the albums I’ve made, of all the bands I’ve had the pleasure of being in. I really feel like the Sound City movie, its intention is to inspire the next generation of kids to fall in love with music as much as I did.’
He just needs to realize that not everyone has his stamina, he stayed on stage for the whole set,…what is he on honestly? The same stuff than Lance Armstrong was on?
There are numerous videos of the performance posted on YouTube, for once they didn’t seemed to have a problem with it! Here are a few of the best ones with Queens of the Stone Age’s Alain Johannes, Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks and Rick Springfield… They sounded quite good, but I still can’t get over that January 31st is gonna be a fucking music marathon!
