Did we need another proof that some people are still living in the 50s or the dark ages? According to Spin magazine, ‘Deadspin filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the Federal Communications Commission in order to obtain copies of complaints sent in by viewers to the television standards overseers’ and compiled complaints related to Beyonce’s performance at the Super Bowl XLVII. The result is totally hilarious or insane, depending how seriously you take them.
Here are a few excerpts sent by these good people, who talk about ‘that raunchy Beyonce gyrating her vagina in front of the cameras’, who are ‘appalled at Beyonce’s performance… who basically humped the air, stimulating sex for 13 minutes’, who ‘had to turn off the television’ because a 9-year-old son was watching ‘Beyonce’s prostitute/dominatrix portrayal’, who were shocked that Beyonce was wearing ‘a black piece outfit that looked like it came out of a sex shop or porn video’…
You get the picture, you can read all of them, but it is very redundant, with a lot of ‘gyrating hips’, vagina’, ‘porn’ and various sex references. So decades after Elvis, people are still shocked by dance movements involving hips? And who are these people who are appalled by skimpy outfits, don’t they go to a swimming pool or the beach? Plus what kind of gymnastic sex do they have if it looks anything like Beyonce’s aerobic dance performance! And I also wonder whether these people ever turn on the TV!
You are gonna say, what else is new? Some people, because of their religious and conservative upbringing, will always be living according to the standards of decades ago, and all these emails probably come from the same part of the US. I wonder if Madonna's last year performance triggered the same reactions? Or is it worst for Beyonce because she is not white? But imagine such emails from Germany or Sweden? Sadly, reactions like these tell more than anything about the state of America’s maturity.
