Sometimes I love them sometime I hate them and this time, I am incredibly impressed. Coheed and Cambria, the New York rockers took on Gotyes pop hit on a few live dates and really did a fabulous job.
I'm not really a fan of Coheed, they're a bit hard for me but lead singer Claudio Sanchez has a great voice, that really comes clean in this one. It's always fun to hear a tough ass band do a pop tune. This may be the reason Fearless Records "Punk Goes…" series is so wonderful. This contradiction of style works amazingly well. Even musically, Coheed and Cambria make it their own,
A crap cell phone Youtube recording along with scream along fans cannot distract from the tune. That alone is a huge accomplishment as I usually cant get passed the 'woo hoo', of the crowd.
Gotye chimed in, being rather smuggy (or perhaps it's interpretation?) about bands covering his tune:
“Sometimes I feel like I’m a bit sick of it,” continued the singer. “My inbox, on any given day, has at least five covers or parodies or remixes of it and there’s only so many times you can listen to the one song…It had an energy that wasn’t like anything I’ve put out before. I don’t really feel like it belongs to me anymore. Everybody else kind of owns it now, especially with there being so many cover versions and parodies.”
