Coachella Back On Track

Hipsters rejoice! You are safe,… it was way too much noise for nothing, the Coachella festival is back on as scheduled! Well, it was also very predictable, as the cities want to keep that important relationship with Goldenvoice!

La Quinta was first to give up and approved this new contract proposed by Goldenvoice, addressing some of the city’s concerns, such as a ‘monitoring by an independent third party of air quality, traffic and noise’.

La Quinta City Council members were heavily criticized for putting the future of the king of music festivals in jeopardy, and half-dozen protestors showed up at the meeting to show their support for Coachella (there is of course a facebook group https://www.facebook.com/supportcoachella?sk=wall)

According to mydesert.com, it is a two-year contract, and 2012 Coachella will be held on two consecutive weekends, April 13-15 and April 20-22 whereas Stagecoach is planned for April 27-29.

One important point: ‘The agreement also contributes $2.33 per weekend pass to Indio's general fund. If all three weekends sell out, the city could make as much as $500,000.’
Not bad, and it may increase in 2013, as ‘Councilman Sam Torres proposed tacking on 6 percent to each ticket beginning in 2013 to provide more funds for the city'.

So does it mean higher prices for the tickets?
