Coachella Adds A Day

As promised, the big news regarding Coachella was announced on Tuesday morning, and it is quite spectacular: music lovers, you will now have two weekends to celebrate the Indio festival!

Promoter Goldenvoice announced that Coachella will now be held over two consecutive weekends, on April 13-15, 2012, and on April 20-22, 2012. But this does not necessarily mean more music as the two weekends will be identical, with the same lineups.

So just because they were extremely successful at selling their tickets, because this year the festival sold out in an impressive record time of 6 days, they are cloning it?  Doesn’t it kill the magic? If there was any left…

A lot of people were not able to get tickets as there has been an ever-growing demand for the festival each year, so the promoter presents it as a favor for the fans, but of course everybody realizes how much money this new addition represents.

The other big news is the presale of the tickets: they will go on sale at $269 plus fees for three days this Friday at 10 am PST until next Friday June 10th, with a possible payment plan! Yes, almost a year in advance, without any information regarding the lineup!

So will they sell tickets a year in advance?? Will superfans buy tickets for both weekends? Probably, but why the very early sale?

Here is the entire press release you can read on the Coachella site:

‘We're excited to announce Coachella 2012 will be held over TWO WEEKENDS.

In an effort to try and accommodate everyone who wants to experience the festival, COACHELLA 2012 will be two separate events, held over two consecutive weekends. We will attempt to produce two identical festival weekends. That means same lineup, same art, same place, different people.

We know many of you were unable to attend this year's festival because passes sold out much sooner than anticipated. We were truly surprised by the overwhelming response and remain honored by your passion and enthusiasm. We also know some of you purchased through non legitimate sources and were inconvenienced, gouged or totally scammed. We hope that these changes will give everyone the opportunity to purchase directly from Coachella.com.

Passes go on sale beginning this Friday, June 3rd, 2011, at 10am PST until the following Friday June 10th, 2011, at 10pm PST. This advance sale will be the only opportunity to take advantage of the Coachella Payment Plan. Passes will be available through a payment plan of 10% down and 8 equal monthly payments OR by payment in full. The price of three-day passes remains at $269 plus fees for the sixth consecutive year.
