Christopher Paul Stelling’s first album is dropping Winter 2011 and if it is all as good as great as “Flawless Executioner”, he is about to spin new york’s folk scene around.
myspacing some of his other stuff and it is a bit more hit and miss… there is an old saying in the folk biz: do what you want but for fuck’s sake don’t sound like Ben harper… Unfortunately, here and there Christopher Paul Stelling fails the Harper test…
Elsewhere he gets it near perfect, and if you’re gonna call a song “Mourning Train To Memphis you better get it right as well: the finger picked guitar seems to roil you along and though his voice is so sweet it dodges the dreaded new Dylan moniker, still, this is pre-rock Dylanish and very very very (er) very good.
Originally from Daytona Beach, currently in Brooklyn, I just went on Itunes to invest in a coupla tracks but, nope, nothing there. However he is playing the following gigs and if the Tuesday one was at 8pm, idda checked him out… with Woody going back to college on Monday there is no fall back position either.
