Cheri Dahl, "High Heels" Reviewed

There is nothing more endearing to me than a bad ass broad.  Cheri Dahl is just that.  The 'born and raised in New York' girl oozes asphalt and offers up this tale of vulnerable girl.

Its a pretty song that slapped me instantly of Chrissie Hynde. Right down to the classic Hynde vibrato.  There is a difference between Chrissie and Cheri though.  Cheri will kick your ass, Chrissie will flip you off and walk away.  So tough girls singing soft songs work just fine if you put it into perspective.

'Do you know how it feels to be stranded on a mountain top in high heels' is the hook.  Lets face it, Cheri wouldn't be stranded anywhere so this must be a tale of someone she knew or someone she was.  If anything shes the girl who would snag the car keys and leave everyone else stranded AND take their high heels.  Which is why I like her.  The song is beautiful and her voice is dreamy and musically I love it- but because it reminds me of Chrissie.

What I dislike here is the vulnerable 'burn my arm with a cigarette' bull that every rock chick man hating tune does.  C'mon we're over that in 2013 we're the ones putting stilettos to the balls of the bad boys who do us wrong. Especially at 19- at 14 we take it maybe at 19 we shouldn't.  And it is there where Ms Dahl and I will part ways.  I wont pretend to find the lyrics heartfelt or meaningful but rather the cliche of a 80's Rat Pack movie, I'm just waiting for Judd Nelson to pull up on a Vespa to save the day.

I would love this song if the final chorus was one of revenge instead of defeat.
